Kasai is half human and half dragon. As a result of this, she has human abilities (telekinisis, in this case. Usually a low-level ability, but she has a LOT of power to amp it up. She's also stronger than normal for her size), and dragon fire abilities.

She doesn't know it, but she can transform into a human-dragon hybrid (and into a full dragon form.) Her power goes up with each stage of transformation. She doesn't tell ANYONE this, as she was made fun of and abused in different ways as a child because of this. Also, she has multiple personality disorder, so she isn't fully aware of this. The alternate personality is outspoken, cocky, confident, has a temper, and protects Kasai. She can't transform into full dragon mode until she integrates her personalities, and to do that she has to make peace with her past.

Kasai was orphaned at a young age, and grew up bouncing from relative to relative in the northern area of the kingdom of Rogim. The Natas have been pursuing her for her entire life, and they've killed her family and destroyed villages in their attempts to capture here. This has lead to her being somewhat notorious in the north. Many of the people in that area consider her cursed, and drove her away when sought food or shelter.

Kasai ended up at a monastery where the monks of Ard cared for her, and sent her to ABG for college when she turned 18.

Kasai didn't have many friends until she met Onin (and later Tannin, Saija, and Amaryllis) and she's terrified that he'll one day abandon her as well.
